OUR GROWING PRACTICES
We're continually amazed at the variety and quality of the produce that
can be grown in our high-desert climate. Our clients include chefs from
the top restaurants in Bend as well as our CSA members. Greenhouses, row
covers, windbreaks and rock walls increase radiant warmth for tender
seedlings and extend the productive season. Our animals provide our soil
with home-grown fertility that we carefully compost on-site. Crop
rotation, cover cropping, companion planting and growing flowers that attract beneficial insects
ensure a healthy and vibrant ecosystem. Most Certified-Organic farms have access to a vast array of "approved" pesticides.
WE DON'T SPRAY AT ALL and have discovered that after more than 10 years of continually improving our soils, strategic seed selection, and time-sensitive planting; we don't need any amount of toxic chemicals.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR TOTES
Our
first delivery of Veggie Totes will begin in late March or early April so that
you can get your Popeye on early and benefit from luscious greenhouse greens
and roots. We provide premium nutrition to athletes, weekend warriors, or just
folks who want to improve their health and culinary repertoire. Summer and fall crops include exotic and heirloom varieties
of tomatoes, eggplants, tomatillos, and peppers alongside a wide array of
vegetables – heirloom lettuces, asparagus, fennel, braising and Asian
greens, beets, potatoes, leeks, multi-hued carrots, snow, snap and shelling peas, squash, bunching onions, multi-hued beans,
Armenian, pickling and lemon cucumbers – the list goes on and on! Our members also receive a steady supply of seasonal, fresh herbs,
including edible flowers, tarragon, thyme, sage, chives, sorrel, Italian parsley, basils, dill,
cilantro, lavender, savory and mints. Our fruit plots are steadily growing and in 2018, along with reliable crops of
strawberries and rhubarb, we hope to be able to offer our CSA a taste of apples, plums, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, and heirloom
melons.

WHY LOCAL? WHY SUSTAINABLE?
There are lots of feel-good reasons to join our CSA. Global food-systems and official agricultural policies have long favored extractive, industrial approaches to farming that have had disastrous consequences for environmental and human health. These vast mono-culture "factory farms" often depend on exploitive labor practices. BY JOINING OUR FARM, YOU CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION! You'll be protecting our local pollinators and helping to maintain carbon-sequestering acreage right in your backyard while providing healthy, meaningful employment for my crew, your neighbors.
